DES MOINES AREA COMMUNITY COLLEGE: Six DMACC Athletic Teams, 36 Student-Athletes Earn NJCAA Academic Honors

Des Moines Area Community College issued the following announcement on July 13. 

Six DMACC athletic teams and 36 student-athletes earned All-Academic Honors from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) for the 2019-2020 academic year.

DMACC athletic teams earning honorable mention all-academic honors were baseball, men's basketball, women's basketball, women's golf, softball and volleyball. The DMACC baseball team had a cumulative grade point average of 3.08; the men's basketball team GPA was 3.30; the women's basketball cumulative GPA was 3.30; women's golf posted a 3.45; softball had a 3.49; and volleyball was at 3.00. 

The 3.30 GPA posted by the DMACC women's basketball team was the highest for all women's basketball teams in NJCAA Division II Region XI. 

Student-athletes named to the NJCAA All-Academic First Team posted a GPA of 4.0. Student-athletes named to the second team had a GPA of 3.80-3.99, and those named to the third team had a GPA of 3.60 to 3.79.

DMACC student-athletes named to the first team were: Bethany Evans of West Des Moines (women's basketball); Kaleb Harrison of Neola (baseball); Kolton Scherbenske of Rapid City, SD (baseball); Jacob Sheeder of Truro (baseball) and Zoey Wright of Ottumwa (softball). 

DMACC student-athletes named to the second team were: Daphne Alstott of Fort Dodge (softball); Eryn Anderson of Houghton (volleyball); Grant Bohling of Lincoln, NE (baseball); Haley Forret of Van Meter (softball); Nathan Griffin of Ames (baseball); Michael Hartford of McKinney, TX (men's basketball); Zach Lester of Clear Lake (men's basketball); Jocelyn Long of Overland Park, KS (softball); Jordan Neely of Tiffin (volleyball); Kaylie Reynolds of Muscatine (softball); Tad Scherbenske of Rapid City, SD (baseball); Elly Schuemann of Marion (softball) and Josh Ylonen of Ames (baseball). 

DMACC student-athletes named to the third team were: Ally Anderson of Atlantic (softball); Maddie Berns of Winterset (softball); Carter Bornemeier of Elmwood, NE (baseball); Shamir Brown of Tuscaloosa, AL (women's basketball); Ryan Cole of Ames (men's golf); Katelyn Courtney of Ames (women's basketball/volleyball); Bradley Day of Mildenhall, Suffolk, UK (men's basketball); Nathaniel Gorczyca of Omaha, NE (baseball); Jack Luster of Huxley (baseball); Sophia Maras of Johnston (softball); Asia Mena of Chicago, IL (women's basketball); Shelbi Raymond of Madrid (women's basketball); Ryan Schmitt of Van Meter (men's basketball); Cole Schumacher of Bennington, NE (baseball); Katie Scott of Polk City (women's basketball); Lydia Steier of Granger (women's golf); Anna Stevens of Ames (softball) and Sophie Swygman of Elkhart (softball).
