A resolution passed recently by the Greene County Board of Supervisors is encouraging community members to use face coverings to slow the spread of COVID-19 infections, although not making masks mandatory.
According to an Aug. 20 Raccoon Valley Radio news report, the resolution provides guidelines for mask wearing and the types of masks that should be used but only "recommends" the use of face coverings to help combat the coronavirus spread.
The resolution states that in the "best interest of health, safety and economic recovery" face coverings should be worn in public settings including in grocery and retail stores along with practicing social distancing by staying six feet apart from others, according to the Raccoon Valley Radio report.
“When I wear a cloth face mask I am protecting you," Greene County Public Health Director Becky Wolf told Raccoon Valley Radio. "When you wear a face mask you are protecting me. So it’s all about caring for each other in an effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19.”
The resolution also goes on to state that the face coverings recommendation is due in part to the area's "significant" continued spread of COVID-19.
