During the first quarter of 2026, The Capstone Group, Inc. owned The New Homestead Care Center, according to Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The facility, located in Guthrie County, has been under The Capstone Group, Inc. ownership since April 1, 2021.

The New Homestead Care Center operates as a non-profit organization.

For the same period, the center received an overall CMS rating of two, which was lower than the state average nursing home score of 3.1 in Iowa. CMS bases its assessment of nursing homes on factors such as health inspection reports, staffing figures, and resident care quality measurements.

Records show The New Homestead Care Center cared for an average of 47.2 residents per day in the first quarter of 2026, offering a total of 58 beds. The facility is not affiliated with any hospital.

There were no reported fines or penalties at the facility as of the first quarter of 2026.

Overall, Guthrie County had two non-profit nursing homes at the time.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates reveal the population of older adults nationwide is rising while younger cohorts decline. Between 2020 and 2024, people age 65 and older grew by 13%, while those under 18 dropped by 1.7%. The older adult demographic has surged in the past 100 years, expanding from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million in 2024.

A 2021 study indicated that nearly half of older adults, or about 28 million people, could need long-term services and support. That report also predicts more than one-third of this age group may eventually utilize nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
