Jane Hackfort, RN, OCN, of St. Anthony Regional Hospital was presented with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses at a reception with her family and co-workers this week. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation's program to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform daily.

Jane graduated from Methodist in Omaha in 1980 with her diploma as a registered nurse (RN). Jane then began her career at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in 1981. Over the years, Jane has worked in the medical-surgical unit, same-day surgery, intensive care unit and, currently, Jane works in the cancer center in infusion and chemotherapy. Jane and her husband Bert have been married for 42 years and live south of Carroll on a Century Farm. Jane and Bert have three adult children, Greg of Chicago, Bryan of Omaha, and Brandon of Carroll. They have been blessed with 10 grandchildren.

A portion of the nomination submission read: “The Daisy Award celebrates nurses who go above and beyond for their patients and with Jane, there could be an example of something extraordinary she does on a daily basis. Jane is an exemplary nurse that makes a tremendous impact on the patients she cares for. She makes patients in the cancer center feel special as she celebrates their successes, makes them laugh on hard days, and supports patients and family members when they are struggling. Jane is such an asset to the team at St. Anthony. Patients, their families and coworkers are lucky to have her!”

“Jane has cared for patients at St. Anthony for over forty years, many of these being our family members, friends and neighbors. She is much deserving of this award,” said Anita Becker, Vice President of Patient Services and Chief Nursing Officer at St. Anthony. “St. Anthony is proud to continually recognize our nursing staff for their dedicated, compassionate care through the DAISY Foundation.”
