Crawford County Memorial Hospital (CCMH) has been notified John Lothrop III, MD has passed the certifying examination and is now Board Certified in Family Medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine. Dr. Lothrop joined the CCMH medical staff in October 2016.

Family Medicine Certification (FMC) serves to ensure patients and the public a physician is highly skilled and effective at improving their health by having met the specific residency training requirements and continuing to maintain high professional standards. Established by family physicians, FMC is a voluntary specialty credential beyond state licensure that demonstrates an ongoing proficiency in the competencies required of a family physician.

Patients and their families benefit from Board Certified physicians through:

  • Improved quality of care for patients through participation in the Family Medicine Certification process,
  • Recognition by patients, hospitals, insurers, caregivers and other physicians that a physician has met high standards of physician quality,
  • Continuous self-assessment of medical knowledge that supports a medical provider’s dedication to lifelong learning and maintaining quality and safety,
  • Support for professional self-regulation within the specialty of Family Medicine.
Numerous studies have demonstrated the value of Family Medicine Certification in improving knowledge, improving the quality of care delivered, and evidence of professionalism.

Dr. Lothrop is a native of Nebraska and completed his residency at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Rockford. His Family Medicine Residency was completed at the Swedish American Hospital, a division of UW Health. UW Health is an academic health system associated with the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
