DMACC Boone Campus Hires New Student Activities Coordinator

Amanda Strayer of Hudson is the new Student Activities Coordinator at the DMACC Boone Campus.

Strayer has spent the last five years with the Upward Bound TRIO Program at the University of Northern Iowa (UNI). She started working for the program as a Student Office Assistant before serving as the Academic Coordinator and then the Assistant Director.

“My job responsibilities (as Student Activities Coordinator) will include planning, developing and promoting recreational and student leadership programming on the Boone Campus,” Strayer said. “I will be providing a comprehensive student activities program with opportunities for social interaction, wellness, community building and personal growth through student activities and clubs.”

She said some of her additional responsibilities include promoting DMACC Boone Campus events and activities via the DMACC Student Daily, which is sent out to all DMACC students three times per week.

“I’m excited to help increase collaboration and engagement within the campus and the DMACC community while genuinely connecting with students and staff,” Strayer said.

As a new resident of Boone, Strayer said she is also enjoying exploring her new community. During her first week in Boone, she said she was shopping at the local Walmart and thought there was a thunderstorm outside before realizing it was Super Nationals at the Boone Speedway.

“Attending my first car race at the Boone Speedway is now on my to-do list!” Strayer said.

Strayer graduated summa cum laude from the University of Northern Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts in communication studies and a minor in psychology. She is currently pursuing her Master of Business Administration degree with an emphasis in organizational development from Upper Iowa University.

She currently serves on the Iowa TRIO Board of Directors, the state chapter of the Educational Opportunity Association as the Public Relations, Communications & Technology Chair.

In addition, Strayer has experience in event coordinator responsibilities including recreational programming, student leadership programming, residential programming, staff supervision and training, public relations and communications, budgeting and grant writing, recruitment and orientation. Strayer has also organized and implemented events in her community.

“We are excited to have Amanda join our team,” DMACC Boone Campus Provost Dr. Drew Nelson said. “She will help the Boone campus continue to be the place to go for a traditional college experience.”
