CCMH Celebrates First and Daisy Bee Awards Winners

43

Crawford County Memorial Hospital is pleased to announce its DAISY and BEE Award recipients for June 2022. The DAISY Award is an international recognition program that honors extraordinary care given by nurses, and the BEE Award recognizes non-nursing staff that continuously go above and beyond to provide an exceptional patient experience.

Brooke Attanasio and Kimberly Larson, both Registered Nurses who work in the CCMH Medical Unit, received the first DAISY Awards presented at CCMH. The first BEE Award was given to Rick Carlson, an Environmental Services Technician.

“We are proud to be among the hospitals participating in the DAISY and BEE Awards programs” says CCMH Chief Nursing Officer, Jason Franklin. “It’s important that our staff know their work is highly valued, and these awards provide another way for us to do that.”

Ms. Attanasio and Ms. Larson were chosen to receive DAISY Awards for the skillful and compassionate care given to a co-worker’s family.

The nomination read, in part, “My father was admitted to CCMH… During his stay, my mother passed away unexpectedly. After my father heard that my mother had passed, he took a turn for the worse, and we feared my father would not survive until my mother’s funeral. I knew he needed to see my mother at the funeral home one last time to provide some sort of closure for him. Brooke and Kim arranged for this to happen, and I will be forever grateful to them. When dad passed 4 days later, he did so peacefully, knowing that his wife was taken care of and waiting for him.”

Mr. Carlson was chosen to receive the BEE Award for his positive attitude and willingness to go the extra mile for his team members.

His nomination read, in part, “Rick is absolutely amazing! He comes to work with a positive attitude every day. When on the Med Unit, he is always willing to lend a helping hand and complete any task asked of him with a positive attitude and a smile on his face. Rick is courteous and polite, and he makes working at CCMH such a delight.”

Each honoree received a certificate, a pin, a celebration in their department and a beautiful and meaningful sculpture hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe.

Nominations for future DAISY and BEE Awards at CCMH continue to be accepted. Patients and visitors are encouraged to share and submit their story of witnessing excellent and compassionate care from staff.  Brochures about the DAISY Award and BEE Awards, along with nomination forms, are available throughout the hospital and CCMH Medical Clinic, and can also be found online at www.ccmhia.com/contact-us/.  The next DAISY and BEE awards will be presented in December 2022.

The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune SYstem) award, is an international award backed by the DAISY Foundation, a nonprofit organization with a mission to recognize the extraordinary, compassionate care that nurses provide patients and families every day. The BEE (Being Exceptional Everyday) award is designed to recognize non-nursing CCMH staff that have gone above and beyond their call of duty to provide an exceptional patient experience.
