The Greene County Schools in conjunction with the Greene County Sheriffs Department, the Greene County Attorneys Office, and the Jefferson Police Department are all working together to look out for the safety of the youth and adults of Greene County. Gatherings of youth under the age of twenty-one with alcohol present are becoming more common place. In an effort to address this issue, the Greene County Board of Supervisors has passed an ordinance regarding the provision of alcoholic beverages, prescription drugs, and controlled substances to persons under the age of twenty-one within Greene County. Violation of this ordinance would be a civil infraction with a civil penalty of $750 for a first offense and $1,000 for subsequent violations. The person who has control over the property would be responsible for the fines. Fines would be based on the number of underage individuals at the gathering, $750 x 20 underage youth = $15,000. As a school district we felt it was important to share this information with you as well as a link to the new ordinance. Please help us protect the youth and adults of Greene County.
