Poet Denise Duhamel and Poet Gary Jackson Will Read from their Works at DMACC’s Celebration of the Literary Arts

Novel writer Denise Duhamel and Gary Jackson are the next two authors participating in the 2022 DMACC Celebration of Literary Arts. They will read from their works from 2 to 3 p.m. on Tues., April 12, and participate in a Q&A during a FREE virtual event held via Zoom (register here)

The Annual DMACC Celebration of Literary Arts, now in its 19th year, will be held virtually again this year. Local, regional and national authors will read from their works during weekly, one-hour events held online via Zoom. All events are free and open to the public.

Denise Duhamel’s most recent books of poetry are “Second Story” (Pittsburgh, 2021) and “Scald” (Pittsburgh, 2017). “Blowout” (Pittsburgh, 2013) was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award. Duhamel is a recipient of fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts.

She is a distinguished professor at Florida International University in Miami.

Gary Jackson is the author of the poetry collections “Origin Story” (University of New Mexico Press, 2021) and “Missing You, Metropolis” (Graywolf Press, 2010), which received the 2009 Cave Canem Poetry Prize.

He is also the co-editor of “The Future of Black: Afrofuturism, Black Comics, and Superhero Poetry” (Blair Publishing, 2021). The recipient of Cave Canem and Bread Loaf fellowships.

Jackson is an associate professor in English and creative writing at the College of Charleston where he’s currently the Director of Undergraduate Creative Writing and teaches in the Masters of Fine Arts (MFA) program.
