Manning Regional Healthcare recently issued the following announcement.
The Recovery Center at Manning Regional Healthcare Center and IKM-Manning Schools are recognizing Red Ribbon Week, October 23-31, the largest drug-abuse prevention campaign in the world. Recovery Center Counselor, Damon Bromley will be speaking to the 8th grade class on Thursday, October 28th about his journey to sobriety, the dangers of substance and alcohol abuse, the effects it can have and how to get help.
“Middle school is really a tipping point for healthy habits and behaviors,” shared Rachel Merkel, IKM-Manning K-8 guidance counselor. “I think it is so important for students to learn how choices can really affect your life and how you can get help for yourself and loved ones if addiction is a problem.”
This year’s Red Ribbon Week national theme is "drug free looks like me", a reminder that everyone makes significant daily contributions to their communities by being the best they can be because they live drug-free.
“As substance abuse is on the rise, it is our job to not only serve as good role models but to inform children of the dangers that drugs and alcohol pose,” said MRHC CEO, Linn Block, RN, BSN, MHA. “If you are struggling with an addiction, remember that it doesn’t just affect you; addiction hurts families, friends, coworkers and others you may not even realize.”
The Recovery Center at MRHC is a 16-bed, co-ed chemical dependency facility located in Manning. Uniquely located inside a hospital, MRHC’s recovery center bases their treatment, care, and support around the principle that there is no such thing as a “one size fits all” approach when it comes to recovery. Licensed counselors build relationships with each client to better understand who they are and where they are coming from to determine what strategies will best help them reach their drug or alcohol-free goals.
For nearly four decades, Recovery Center staff have adapted treatments to meet the most pressing or newly emergent addiction issues. From alcoholism to the influx of meth to the abuse of prescription painkillers, staff have consistently helped clients take their first step toward healthy, drug and alcohol-free lifestyles.
