DES MOINES AREA COMMUNITY COLLEGE: Rebecca Papian Named New DMACC Urban Campus Counselor

Des Moines Area Community College issued the following announcement on Dec. 21. 

Rebecca (Becca) Papian of Clive has been hired as the new full-time counselor at the DMACC Urban Campus.

She fills the position of Pamela Parker, who is retiring at the end of the calendar year.

Papian graduated from Grinnell College with a degree in American Studies. She went on to earn a master's degree from Drake University and a Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Iowa. She is also a Licensed Social Worker (LMSW).

Papian has worked in human services for the past 16 years at various agencies, including working with survivors of domestic violence, pregnant and parenting homeless teens, families involved with the Department of Human Services, and individuals with mental illness.

In addition, Papian has been a part-time vounselor at the DMACC Urban Campus since 2015. During that time, she has provided extensive counseling support to Urban Campus students.

“Becca has also facilitated Mental Health First Aid trainings and played a pivotal role in the success of the Early Alert Referral System," said Dr. Anne Howsare Boyens, Provost of the DMACC Urban Campus. “She will be an excellent full-time counselor at our Urban Campus."
