Greene County contributed to record voter turnout with 76.13% of registered voters showing up to polls in one way or another in the general election.
Out of the county’s 6,674 registered voters, 5,081 ballots were cast, as reported by Raccoon Valley Radio. It is the highest voter turnout Greene County Deputy Auditor Billie Hoskins has ever seen for a General Election in her tenure, and she’s been at her job for 22 years.
Early voting and absentee vote numbers were up within those numbers.
“If you look at past results for absentee voting, it seems like the trend keeps going up for every general election,” Hoskins said, as reported by Raccoon Valley Radio. “So that part of it, I’m not surprised. But with COVID and just the publicity nationwide, yeah we had an overwhelming amount of absentees in Greene County, and statewide.”
One method of voting the county offered was curbside voting, which was something extra poll workers had to deal with.
“The main thing that we had to tackle – and it has to do with COVID – is we had more people that were wanting to curbside vote, which they could do at the polling place,” Hoskins said, as seen in Raccoon Valley Radio. “We had more of that the polling location, which takes more time for our poll workers because two of them have to go and assist the voter.”
