Audubon City Council members voted to approve the first reading of an ordinance changing utility rates and billing in a recent meeting.
However, officials also said that the rates and possibly some changes will be discussed before the final vote for approval, according to the Audubon County Advocate Journal.
The council said that the monthly billing option has been discussed. In the discussion, the installation of new water meters was also approved. The new meters can be read at a safer distance.
City Clerk Joe Foran said that a majority of the new meters are already installed and ready for action. Foran said that workers are conducting any last installations or adjustments to the meters.
Foran assures citizens that bills would be totaled out by the end of the 2020 year. He said that by New Year 2021, the first one-month billing will begin.
Mayor Barb Jacobsen said that feedback from the community has been mostly positive.
