Des Moines Area Community College issued the following announcement on Oct. 15.
WHAT: October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCSAM). Now in its 17 year, NCSAM continues to raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity across our nation, ensuring that all Americans have the resources they need to be safer and more secure online.
Cybersecurity Awareness Month was launched by the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in October 2004.
The theme of 2020 is “Do Your Part. #BeCyberSmart.” This theme encourages individuals and organizations to own their role in protecting their part of cyberspace, stressing personal accountability and the importance of taking proactive steps to enhance cybersecurity.
WHY: National Cybersecurity Awareness Month tries to help you stay protected whenever and however you connect to the Internet because cyber-criminals are constantly working to scam you.
Possible cybersecurity issues pertaining to the upcoming election have been a hot topic by many recently.
WHO: DMACC offers an Associate of Applied Science degree in Cybersecurity, a Cybersecurity diploma, as well as a Cybersecurity certificate and an E-Discovery certificate.
