Des Moines Area Community College issued the following announcement on Sept. 11.
The 13th Annual DMACC CEO Golf Invitational raised $350,000 for student scholarships this year. That amount was raised despite the COVID-19 pandemic forcing the cancellation of the day-long event held annually at the Talons of Tuscany Golf Course in Ankeny, the private golf course of Dennis Albaugh.
“Dennis' partnering with DMACC for the last 13 years has raised more than $3.2 million, all for scholarships," said DMACC President Rob Denson. “I can't speak highly enough of those who are committed to supporting this event and our DMACC students. The fact that we received a record level of support, in the midst of a pandemic and the resulting economic downturn, speaks volumes. It is pretty special to be a member of this DMACC family."
DMACC CEO Golf Invitational Committee Chair and DMACC Foundation Board member Curtis Van Veldhuizen said he, too, was impressed with the amount of giving this year.
“We have had to deal with challenges in the past related to weather, but we couldn't have imagined a hurdle as big and as complex as the pandemic," Van Veldhuizen said. “It is humbling to see the continued support of our sponsors and players, even though we couldn't host an in-person tournament this year. That kind of support just speaks to the important role DMACC plays in our community."
