MANNING REGIONAL HEALTHCARE CENTER: Student Athletes Should Schedule Their Annual Physical

Health event recap 01

Manning Regional Healthcare Center recently issued the following announcement.

Manning Regional Healthcare Center wants to remind parents or caregivers to schedule their middle school and high school students’ yearly sports physicals as well as younger children’s well-child exams at MRHC soon. Appointments are filling up quickly.

MRHC is taking extra precaution to keep all patients safe. Routine wellness exams, sports physicals, and lab draws are being held during non-respiratory clinic times to ensure well patients are not exposed to the Coronavirus.

Sports physicals are required to participate in school sports and are offered by various area health providers. MRHC is offering extended hours to accommodate busy schedules. Dedicated sports physical clinics will be offered on Tuesdays from 4:00p.m. to 6:00p.m. starting July 28 and continuing throughout August. Appointments for physicals can also be scheduled during normal business hours as appointments are available.

“At Manning Regional Healthcare Center, in addition to the sports physical, we can also review annual vaccinations and provide the well-child visit at the same time minimizing the need for additional appointments for families,” said Shelby Dickson, RN, Family Practice Clinic Director.

Not only are annual exams necessary to ensure that children are up to date on vaccines, their primary care provider will ensure that there are no health concerns and that they are growing and developing appropriately. Especially if your child will be participating in sports throughout the year, it is vital that they are healthy and ready to compete.

Dr. Luong, stresses the importance of yearly physicals. “No matter how healthy you think you are, guidelines change as you age. I encourage my patients to at least see your doctor for an annual physical once a year. It’s important to ensure that nothing is missed and that for children, vaccinations are updated and appropriate preventative care is received,” said Luong.

Patients are encouraged to bring their completed sports physical forms, signed by parents to their appointments. These forms can be found at https://www.mrhcia.com/sports-physical-forms or at the MRHC Main Entrance. The school sports physical forms can be found on the school website. To schedule an appointment for a sports physical, call Manning Regional Healthcare Center at (712) 655-2072.
