City of Carroll issued the following announcement on June 6.
As a result of the recent warm temperatures and windy conditions, water use in the City has increased from a daily average in May of 1,000,000 gallons per day to currently approximately 1,500,000 gallons per day. The increase likely includes nonessential uses and lawn irrigation.
The City’s Water Tower is currently out of service for rehabilitation work. It is anticipated that the Water Tower will remain out of service through June 30, 2020. During the time that the Water Tower is out of service, water volume and pressure are provided to the City’s water distribution system by continuous pumping. The system capability for continuous pumping rate is approximately 1,700 gallons per minute. The water pumping rate on June 3 and June 4 varied from 1,467 gallons per minute to 1,669 gallons per minute, approaching the system maximum capability at mid-morning on June 4.
In order to continue to safely provide water to the City, the Water Division is asking residents to plan their nonessential water use, including lawn irrigation, for the period of time between 8:00 PM and 6:00 AM, daily. That planning will assist the Water Division in providing satisfactory water volume and pressure for essential uses during the day and the opportunity, for those who elect, for nonessential uses in the evening and night.
