A Greene County attorney is attempting to determine whether to charge a large group for gathering while social distancing orders were in place for COVID-19.
According to We Are Iowa, a neighbor called the sheriff’s office on April 3 for a drinking party that was taking place in Greene County.
The police officers found that 60 people were at the home and some of the individuals were charged with underage drinking.
Sheriff Jack Williams said that it has been important for the local law enforcement to take large public gatherings seriously. In fact, Williams said that there have been several other large gatherings in the last week.
Currently, the police are trying to determine whether or not to charge the individuals at the April 6 party for going against the governor’s orders as there was not the necessary code sections in place for law enforcement to use in response to the gathering.
Since then, the governor’s office has provided local law enforcement with language specifically concerning gatherings of more than 10 people.
