St. Anthony Regional Hospice issued the following announcement on Feb. 22.
The Diocese of Sioux City recently presented a $200,000 donation in support of the St. Anthony Regional Cancer Center. In making the donation, they kept in mind all west central Iowans who are touched by cancer including their own parishes and parishioners.
“Caring for the sick has been a mission of the Catholic Church since its formation thousands of years ago,” said Bishop R. Walker Nickless. “The mission of St. Anthony Regional Hospital aligns with the mission of the Diocese and we are pleased to support the regional cancer center with this donation. May Saint Peregrine Novena, patron of cancer sufferers, intercede for those ailing from the dreaded disease of cancer.”
To date, gifts to the Building Hope Campaign have come from 14 states and 21 Iowa counties, demonstrating the regional importance of the cancer center. Twelve of those counties are part of the Sioux City Diocese. Construction on the 21,000 square foot facility began in May 2019 and is scheduled to be open in December 2020.
