Accura Healthcare of Pomeroy, LLC was the third largest nursing home in Calhoun County for the opening quarter of 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.
The facility had 30 available beds, which was nine fewer than the Calhoun County average during that quarter. Its staff cared for an average of 27.2 residents throughout the period.
CMS awarded Accura Healthcare of Pomeroy, LLC an overall rating of 3 out of 5, falling just short of Iowa’s nursing home average score of 3.1.
In the same time frame, Accura Healthcare of Lake City, LLC was the county’s largest nursing home, offering 46 beds, while Good Samaritan Society – Manson was second with 42 beds available.
Accura Healthcare of Pomeroy, LLC recorded no fines or penalties in the first quarter of 2026.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates show the nation’s population of older adults is expanding while numbers for younger age groups drop. From 2020 to 2024, the number of Americans age 65 and over rose by 13%, whereas those under 18 declined 1.7%. Across the last century, the older adult population in the U.S. swelled from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million by 2024.
A 2021 analysis estimates that nearly half of this demographic—around 28 million people—will require long-term services and support, and over a third are expected to eventually need nursing home care.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education organization. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
